Ervik Group digitizes operations with CCOM X

Ervik Group combines strong roots in Norwegian coastal culture with modern technology and global operations. With high demands for documentation, safety and efficiency, they have chosen CCOM X as their new safety and operational tool – first up is the groundbreaking vessel “Frøyanes”, which sets a new standard for the future of crab fishing in the Barents Sea.

From its modern headquarters in Stad, Ervik Group runs an international fishing business with strong roots in Norwegian coastal culture. The company operates a modern fleet that is in continuous development – both technologically and operationally.

The business requires a high degree of control over everything from fishing quotas and regulations to logistics and finances. With office windows facing both the Stadhavet and the world, Ervik Group combines local roots with a global perspective on food production and sustainable fisheries. At the same time, the commitment to the local community is strong: The boats are based in Stadlandet, and the group largely uses local suppliers for everything from fuel and fishing gear to maintenance and accounting.

“Modern fleet operations require more than just experience at sea. We need systems that give us control, structure and predictability – both on land and at sea,” says Emma Wold, who has been central to the implementation of CCOM X at Ervik Group.

Digital control in everyday life

With 10 vessels in operation and increasing requirements for documentation and compliance, Ervik Group chose to digitalize key parts of its operations through CCOM X – a system developed for modern maritime operations.

“The most important thing for us when choosing an ISM and safety management system was that it had to be practical and easy to use for the crew. CCOM X has become a natural part of everyday life on board,” says Emma.

Frøyanes with CCOM X

The new and advanced vessel "Frøyanes" is the first in the Ervik fleet to use CCOM X, and the rest of the fleet is taking its turn in the transition from the previous CCOM platform, which is now being phased out.

The vessel is specially designed for snow crab fishing and shrimp trawling in the Barents Sea, and is the first of its kind with a moonpool – which both increases safety and streamlines operations under demanding conditions.

With a dedicated laboratory for marine research, optimized diesel-electric propulsion, triple trawl system and state-of-the-art production facilities on board, "Frøyanes" marks a new era for efficient, sustainable fishing - and now also with a digital system that provides full control over safety, tasks and procedures.

Structure, traceability and simplification

Ervik Group currently uses various modules in CCOM 2.0 and CCOM X, adapted to each vessel's needs. A particularly big gain has been the ability to digitize checklists – which can now be easily filled out and signed digitally, with a fully traceable history.

“It's incredibly convenient to be able to refer to history and have everything in one place. We don't have to do paperwork, and it saves us both time and frustration,” says Emma.

Vessel-specific risk assessments and the competency matrix are also highlighted as effective and time-saving tools.

– We can easily log in and see updated overviews of crew, expertise and tasks – no matter where we are.

Good support and close cooperation

CCOM's role does not stop at delivery. Ervik Group highlights the good collaboration with both support and consultants as an important success factor.

– We always get quick help. Whether it's moving a user, customizing a module or getting support in connection with an internal audit – it's dealt with right away. We've had a very good dialogue all the way, says Emma.

Easier compliance with requirements

With CCOM X, Ervik Group finds that it has become significantly easier to comply with ISM requirements and follow up on regulatory requirements – especially due to the automation and clear documentation.

“Risk assessments, training, non-conformance reporting and daily tasks – everything is collected digitally and easily accessible. It provides security and saves time,” she concludes.
