How Lighthouse Group uses CCOM X to ensure quality across the fleet

Lighthouse Group has established itself as a significant player in short sea shipping in Norway and the Baltics.

Based in Austevoll, the company operates a modern and efficient business, offering services within technical and commercial operation of its own and external vessels – including ship management, chartering and manning.

Since its inception in 2011, the company has grown to include 14 vessels across seven different shipping companies. It places high demands on structure, safety and quality – across vessels and organizations. To ensure this, Lighthouse has chosen CCOM X as its digital management system for maintenance, ISM and safety management.

The starting point: Flexibility and control

The need was clear: Lighthouse needed a system that provided full overview, but without binding them to rigid processes.

“We needed a flexible tool that could be adapted to our operations. CCOM X is modular and user-friendly, and gives us the freedom to tailor document storage, checklists and reporting for each individual vessel,” says Lasse Øpstad, COO at Lighthouse Group.

The implementation: Smooth transition and effective training

The system was implemented in close collaboration with CCOM's consultants. Training was provided digitally, which streamlined the process.

– The system is intuitive and requires little training. This made it easy to gain acceptance both on board and on shore. Today, mates, skippers and other crew are active users of the platform. For an organization with many different shipping companies and vessels, CCOM X provides a long-awaited common platform – available to everyone, at all times, says Lasse.

The results: Digital workflow and better interaction

With CCOM X, Lighthouse has achieved a holistic, digital workflow between ship and shore organization. Documentation, communication and reporting are now handled via a single platform.

– Everyday life has become more transparent. We have better control, simpler reporting to authorities and easier supervision. Everything is collected in one place, and always up to date, says Øpstad.

Favorite features: Competency matrix and risk assessment

Two features are particularly highlighted as valuable:

“The competency matrix gives us a full overview of the crew's qualifications and ensures the right staffing. The risk assessment module has also become an important tool – easy to use and well-established in everyday life on board,” says Øpstad.

A partnership – not just a system

Lighthouse also highlights the collaboration with CCOM as a success factor:

– The support is very good. We get quick help and useful input. CCOM knows our industry, and that makes them a valuable sparring partner – both strategically and operationally.

With a scalable and intuitive system, Lighthouse has the ability to customize checklists, reporting, and alerts by vessel type and operation. This makes operations more efficient – and makes it easier for the crew to do the job right.

A platform for growth

With CCOM X, Lighthouse has consolidated maintenance, documentation, checklists and reporting into one system. This makes it easier to meet ISM and ISPS requirements, while providing flexibility to handle individual needs.

– CCOM X has given us the tools we need for professional operations – and the flexibility to develop further, in line with the fleet and the market. The system can be scaled and adapted to different types of shipping companies. We highly recommend it – and in fact we often do, says Øpstad.
