Brim Explorer continues with CCOM X as its fleet grows
When Brim Explorer set out to offer quiet, emission-free experiences at sea, the vessels it needed did not exist. So the company built its own. Now, the operator is expanding its fleet with two new fully electric vessels. CCOM X will be on board, continuing a partnership that has developed alongside the business.
For Brim Explorer, experiencing the oceangoes hand in hand with wanting to protect it. Large panoramic windows, spaciouslounges and open decks bring guests closer to nature. On board, guides withexpertise in marine biology share their knowledge of life beneath the surface.
Behind the guest experience is an operationthat requires a clear overview of maintenance, safety management anddocumentation. CCOM X has become a key working tool for both the crews on boardand the shore-based team.
Together with CCOM, we have developeda common foundation for our safety management and maintenance systems. Thatmakes it straightforward to add new vessels, says Espen Larsen-Hakkebo, CTO andCo-founder of Brim Explorer.
Making safety management part of everyday operations
For Albert T. Bjørnerem, a captain at BrimExplorer, quick access to information about a vessel’s technical condition isessential. CCOM X gives him an overview of maintenance tasks approaching theirdue dates, while its drill management functionality supports emergencypreparedness on board.
We chose CCOM X to make our day-to-dayISM work more accessible. Having maintenance and ISM work together works well,as does being able to link procedures, documents and risk assessments, he says.
Shipboard meetings provide a practicalexample. Crews work through a form in CCOM X, where the shore-based team canalso add lessons from incidents that are relevant to other vessels.
This allows us to share lessons learnedthat everyone should review. It is one of the ways we use CCOM X to make surecrews across our fleet learn from each other’s experiences, Bjørnerem explains.
Maintenance, reports, tasks and drills areamong the functions Brim uses most. Keeping track of certificates is anotherimportant part of the work.
A system crews actually use
For Brim Explorer, ease of use isessential. Information needs to be easy to find, and workflows must suit peoplewith different levels of digital experience.
There should be no unnecessary steps ina process. Many of our users are not IT experts, and we find thatstraightforward, user-friendly systems are the ones people use most, saysBjørnerem.
This is also a priority for CCOM as itdevelops the system.

Brim Explorer currently operates fivevessels and has two more under construction. For Larsen-Hakkebo, having asystem supplier that can keep pace with the business has been important.

The new vessels, MS Brask and MS Bram, arefully electric high-speed trimarans scheduled to enter service in spring 2027.Each will accommodate 180 guests and is designed for a speed of 20 knots and arange of 100 nautical miles.
As the fleet grows, maintaining goodworking practices and making experience available across vessels becomes evenmore important. Brim Explorer has therefore also chosen CCOM X for its newvessels.
